Freesia Pollen

These flowers appeared in our garden one day. Each year the bloom with more flowers and more colors, but we never knew what they were until now. As you can see, the pollen is much more elongated than the others, and the largest we’ve seen so far.

These pictures are at the same magnification as the others, but look at the size difference compared to the 3 Cornered Garlic:

Their First Robot

HEXBUG Nano
HEXBUG Nano

A few years ago I got the girls each a HEXBUG Nano
as their first robots. The toys have survived lots of abuse, and the girls still play with them. A great investment. I highly recommend them as an intro to robotics for little ones.

These little bots show off one style of bioengineering: making machines that mimic nature. A much more advanced robot designed with the same philosophy is the BigDog robot from Boston Dynamics. It uses natural-style leg motion to traverse rough terrain.
